Real Wedding at Marquis Los Cabos
Preparations and Wedding Venue
Heidi and Sterling got married at Marquis Los Cabos resort in June 2016. Friends and family flew in from all parts of the United States for this special occasion, what the best man described as “a vacation with a wedding in it”. Guests stayed at the all inclusive resort located on the Cabo resort corridor perched by the Sea of Cortez with its white walls and infinity pools.
The bride did the wedding planning from California and traveled to Cabo to take care of details and meet with vendors a few months before the wedding. She had the support of Marquis’ wedding planning team and used her own expertise as a public relations pro.
The bride had makeup and hair done at the Marquis Spa and did the all other preparations in the couple’s villa, a beachfront “casita”. The room buzzed with visitors as the bride’s brothers helped getting the last details ready for the setup that happened just outside at the sunset pool terrace. The maid-of-honor and the officiant made for the bridal party and were on point for any needs, while the mother of the bride had the veil steamed.
Wearing an Essense of Australia laced wedding gown paired with beautiful ivory Badgley Mischka accent peep toe pumps, the bride accessorized with gorgeous rose gold jewelry, the same as the wedding bands. Heidi chose loose wavey hair and looked amazing especially once the long veil was donned by her mother.
Among the many details the bride prepared for this day were a welcome bag for guests with simple but life-saving small items. Invitations were done through Mint, a design that featured Stamp foil (that cool metallic ink) on rustic paper and a save the date card with an adorable photo from their engagement portraits collection. The most special items were the bride’s grandfather’s ring and her grandmother’s pearls.
Heidi had gifts for her mother (an embroidered handkerchief as well as a framed photo) and for her maid-of-honor and officiant (jewelry). While she herself was gifted earings from her husband-to-be.
Meanwhile the groom got ready in the company of his best man, father and step father. Wearing a three piece suit and striped socks Sterling took care of last details before opening the sweetest gift from his bride (and probably the coolest gift I’ve ever seen a groom get): a cymbal with a printed image of the couple and drumsticks with their wedding date etched. Heidi nailed it, Sterling was clearly deeply touched.
The couple opted for a first look, when they exchanged letters and had a moment to themselves before the celebrations begun. At some point the couple considered the possibility of Sterling playing a song for Heidi on his guitar and although a great idea, it was thought that it would complicate logistics a bit and in the end the exchange of letters gave them plenty to melt for.
The ceremony happened at the spa entrance a shaded and wide area with low ceilings with the beach and a cascade for the altar’s backdrop. Opting for something different of walking down the sand, Heidi and Sterling had not only a one of a kind experience but were able to keep all their guests (and themselves) cool from the heat but still able to enjoy the Ocean views.
The wedding party came out through the doors, opened by the ushers and for last the bride walked in accompanied by her two brothers one on each arm. A reading was made by the groom's cousin while the officiant did a great job with keeping things light, emotional and funny.
Cocktail Hour and Reception
Cocktail hour and reception on the other hand, were outdoors by the beach pool. For the cocktail hour a violinist provided the music.
Details and Decor
Instead of a traditional seating chart, bride and groom opted for a lovely golden frame with a list of guests for each individual table. Candles and calla lilies were displayed in assorted glass candle jars in different sizes forming an asymmetrical centerpiece. Under each plate a single palm leaf and a blue napkin gave the table texture and color and keeping with the beach wedding theme.
At the welcome table guests found a clever alternative to the traditional guest book: heart shaped wooden chips where they wrote messages and then dropped them to the personalized frame where an engraved heart had the couple’s names and wedding date.
Wedding Reception Moments
Bride and groom danced their first dance at the beginning of the reception after being introduced, to the beautiful light of sunset. Toasts were a blast, with both mother of the bride and groom giving one speech together – a list of the qualities they wished for their kids to find in a partner before Heidi and Sterling met each other and if they were successful in their guesses – followed by maid-of-honor and best man. The couple along with their family and guests danced and partied before the night ended with a late night bonfire at the beach.
