Awesome Wedding at Casa del Mar Los Cabos
How it Started and The Proposal
Maris and Grady went to the same high school together and even went to their prom together, as friends though. Only years after graduating they reconnected and started dating.
Grady proposed on a picnic at the Santa Barbara Mission. Maris says that she knew right away when they walked up and there was a blanket set out with champagne. Afterwards they went back to her house where all of their friends were waiting to surprise them and celebrate.
Maris and Grady are very close to their friends and family and their wedding at Casa del Mar in Los Cabos was a day that celebrated not only their love for each other, but the love coming the people present there. That is one of the reasons they chose to have their wedding in Cabo. One day of celebrating just didn’t seem enough.
They wanted to extend it into a vacation for everyone. Living in California means Cabo is pretty close and easy to get to. It’s beauty and party town fame just added to the reasons for having a big wedding here. They wanted a big party and didn’t want it to be too stuffy or serious. And so it was.
Choosing to work with Bonnie Chase a Cabo wedding planner, guaranteed Maris and Grady peace of mind on the process of planning a wedding from far. They had their expectations met at every turn, starting with the venue Casa del Mar.
Casa del Mar seats on the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, on a beach so quiet it seems private. The architecture is hacienda inspired with old Mexican colonial shapes and warm colors that contrast beautifully with the azure of the Sea of Cortez. The couple and their families loved it so much that they had both rehearsal dinner and wedding at the property.
The Wedding Day
The wedding day started also surrounded by friends. Maris room was filled with her bridesmaids and friends dropped by to say hi. It was fun and relaxed.
Maris bridal party was full hands on deck in getting the bride prepared. Her sister in law did her makeup at the terrace facing the ocean while her bridesmaid did her hair. Maris wedding gown was custom made. With a flowy skirt and open sides on the bodice it was completed with a long veil placed under the bride’s knot bun.
In the meantime on the other side of the hotel, Grady was getting ready with his brother and groomsmen. Star Wars socks, jokes and beer in coffee cups set the boys-will-be-boys tone we love so much. Ready in 5 minutes Grady looked a bit nervous as he waited the time for the first look.
Bridesmaids wore dresses different in style and tones but within the same color range, making for a dynamic bridal party look. Bride and groom opted for an asymmetrical wedding party, with three groomsmen and six bridesmaids.
Bridal and bridesmaids bouquets were very unique. Structured by a monstera leaf and combined with palm leaves, they had the only flowers in the wedding: king protea, scarlet ribbon protea and one red anthurium.
For decorations they chose a foliage wedding, which instead of flowers assorted leaves and greenery are used at the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception decor. The ceremony setup was kept simple. Wooden benches aligned by a simple arch on the beach.
Cocktail hour was set up right next to the ceremony area, also on the beach, to cooling temperatures and a soft breeze. Four tall tables were placed with small foliage centerpieces. The reception was also outdoors. With a mix of tall rectangle cocktail tables, round table and one large family style table where bride and groom were to seat with their family and wedding party. Each place setting had monstera leaves and napkins had the names of bride and groom.
Maris was escorted by both of her parents to a ceremony officiated by a friend of the family. Being walked down the aisle by both parents is a very modern take on this traditional moment of any wedding and these three came all the way down laughing all the while. The ceremony was kept short and sweet, with bride and groom all smiles for each other.
After walking out bride and groom along with the wedding party took a quick break together back at the bridal suite. Time for a tequila shots and remembering loved ones departed, it was a good moment between closest friends.
Cocktail Hour and Reception
In the meantime cocktail hour started immediately after the ceremony where guests mingled during sunset. The reception was kick started by bride and groom’s first dance, followed by speeches from maid of honor, best man, both fathers and a specially emotional toast from the sister of the groom.
After the first dance Maris danced with her father while at the very end Grady in a sweet gesture asked to dance with Maris mom.
The couple opting for not having a cake cutting and after dinner the party started. The lively wedding guests mingled and danced to DJ Alexis Alanis.
